Historical Context
Sexual assault has been an issue all over the world more than 20 years and continues to be an issue. According to the the article Age of Consent Laws it states that the issue of sexual assault began around the year of 1270s, which caused England to created laws for sexual assault and rape. This article also states that other places like France, Portugal, Spain, Denmark, Swiss, and other would also have debates on ages and laws that could protect children from being sexually assaulted. This means that this issue has existed even before slavery started and many children have been affected by this issue as years go by.
The historical background about sexual assault to children
has existed in slavery time as well because throughout slavery the “owners” would
rape the slave’s children. This problem has been over more than 10 years
everyone knows that this issue matters but people just don’t want to talk about
it. “Until this day more than 500,000 babies are born each day and would be
abuse before the age of 18 if parents don’t protect them.” Children who live with a stepfather are more likely
being at a risk then a child living with both biological parents. “This is a
really big issue that as a community we should all prevent it because sexual
assault in children is 2.3 higher than an adult “.
When this issue began slaves had to go work so that at least
there family could have something to eat. Throughout this process slaves were
discriminated and abuse these children was sexually abuse at a very young age.
Some parents didn't even know because they would be working and their child was
scared to tell them. According to the
website (www.cachouston.org) says that they are factors that make a child more
vulnerable to child sexual abuse.
Perpetrators have reported that they actually do look for specific
characteristics in the children that they have desire to abuse. Parents should talk to their children and
warn them that they are risks that they could be in danger.
Many parents have an idea what sexual assault is but the
question is do they know if their child is in danger? As a parent they want the
best for their kids
but in order for that to happen they need to know that a sexual assault predator could be around the
community or it can be in their own
neighborhood or right next
door . Parents should communicate with their child and let them know the
situation weather they are victims or not. A sexual predator not only wants to rape
a child but could also have a weapon with him/her so that the child could have fear
and not tell anyone. It’s important for a parent to know the 27 tricks of
sexual predators that in most cases the predator turns out to be a family
member.
“Child abuse laws
exist on the federal, state and local levels. Legislation serves to keep
children free from exploitation, harm, and danger. The Child Abuse Prevention
and Treatment Act (CAPTA) passed by the federal government in 1974 and
reauthorized in 2010 is the largest body of legislation with regard to the
fair, ethical and legal treatment of children and are intended to keep them
free from all forms of abuse including physical, sexual, emotional and
psychological.” If the federal state protects children parents can help
organization and protect their children as well this has been a historical and
worldwide issue. “Mandatory reporter laws establish certain professionals
and/or individuals as mandatory reporters. These laws typically require people
who work closely with children in their profession to alert police or the
appropriate authorities as to suspected abuse. As of March 2012, there are also
18 states whose laws require all citizens with knowledge or suspicion of abuse
to report it the proper authorities”. Children should not stay quiet and my
goal in this project is to let everyone know if they think or know someone who has
been a victim to attend to an organization where they would be provided with help.
