Global Context
My fire project is not only a local or phenomenon but also global phenomenon. My project is a global issue because children are being sexual assault worldwide. Sexual assault to children is most likely to happen to children who leave with a non-biological mother or father. “A study conducted in 1986 found that 63% of women who had suffered sexual abuse by a family member also reported a rape or attempted rape after the age of 14. Recent studies in 2000, 2002, and 2005 have all concluded similar results” (Child sexual abuse statistics). This issue has not only gone worldwide but it has also been around for more than 10 years. If 1,825 children are being abuse each day around the US in other places there are possibilities that there could be a higher number of young victims. “A child who is the victim of prolonged sexual abuse usually develops low self-esteem, a feeling of worthlessness and an abnormal or distorted view of sex the child may become withdrawn and mistrustful of adults, and can become suicidal” ( Child sexual abuse statistics).
The worst thing about this issue is that children who do not live with both biological parents are more likely to be abused than a child who lives with both biological parents. Not only do these children suffer but it also affects them mentally but it also affects them emotionally and throughout the years some of them can't forget what happen to them. There is a solution to this problem they are many organizations that could help children and their parents. But most importantly their parents should protect them and let these children know what could happen to them. Since this issue has existed since slavery till this day as a community everyone should help each other and try to capture a sexual predator because it not only affects girls but it’s also affecting boys organizations accomplished their goal of mentally help a child and believe in the world again but it also informs them that life is not over and that it’s not their fault about what has happen to them.
“According to the National Child Abuse and Neglect Data System (NCANDS), an estimated 9.3 percent of confirmed or substantiated child abuse and neglect cases in 2005 involved sexual abuse (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, 2007). This figure translates into over 83,800 victims in 2005 alone (USDHHS, 2007)”. As the years go by the percentage each year gets higher within our community this issue could be stopped and they could protest for a major punishment towards a sexual predator because not only to they ruin a child's life but they also affect their health. “About 30% of people report sexual assault cases to the authorities” than is a very low percentage if more than 1,825 children are facing sexual assault a day worldwide. As a community we need to take action and help each other now parents might think their child is okay when in reality that child is suffering and sexual assault not only can be rape but a sexual predator might be carrying a weapon at the time and it gives more fear to the child.
Sexual assault in children has occur for many years, which makes this be an issue all over the world and not just in one certain area. There has been news about cases that arise in children that had went through sexual assault. An example is in an article called Migrant Children Accuse Border Patrol Agents of Physical and Sexual Assault states that in Arizona on June 10, 2014 more than half of hundred sixteen children that were migrating were sexually assaulted by the US border officials. This means that even the same people that are part of the government do not respect other even if that is their job to protect lives and not take advantage of them. Many people has experience sexual assault when they were a child. According the the article Sexual Violence Against Children people have reported their personal experience all over the world which shows that this issue happens mostly at homes, institutions, and schools. This increases the amount of people who victimized this issue, schools and institutions are part of the government which also these people are supposed take care of these children in order for them to have a better future for the world. Along the years this issue has expanded around the world, which people have not found a solution to this issue but are trying to stop it. This leads people to create organizations that could help the victims go through their experience according to the reading called 20 Standout Groups Stopping Domestic Violence there are many organizations all over the world to help others for example, American Bar Association Commission on Domestic and Sexual Violence, Asian & Pacific Islander Institute on Domestic Violence, Child Welfare League of America, Equality Now, INCITE! Women of Color Against Violence, National Center on Domestic and Sexual Violence, Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network (RAINN), and others.
